Carbon Black App Control (formerly Cb Protection)

Issue/Introduction

  • HostPackageInstallers run through the console fail repeatedly with a generic install failure message
  • HostPackageInstaller logs in Parity Server\Support directory show username mismatches
  • Package Install log shows error:
ERROR: You must install as the Server service account user 'domain\username'. Aborting

Environment

  • App Control (Formerly CB Protection) Server: 8.1.4 and Higher
  • Host Package Installers
  • Services running with service account listed as "Username@Domain"

Cause

This is caused by a username and domain mismatch expecting a Domain\Username format

Resolution

  1. As an administrator open Services.msc
  2. Edit both the "Carbon Black App Control Server" and "Carbon Black App Control Reporter" services
  3. Change the Logon ID to a DOMAIN\USERNAME format
  4. Re-Run the Host Package Installer
