CB Defense: Upgrade or Uninstall Failure Due to Uninstall.exe Missing

• Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Standard (formerly Cb Defense)

Issue/Introduction

• Updating from 3.4.0.1016 to later versions fail when done via PSC Console, Application Management Software, and manually
• Uninstalling through Add/Remove Programs fails
• Uninstall.exe is missing from Confer directory

Environment

• CB Defense Sensor: 3.4.0.1016
• Microsoft Windows 10 x64
• Microsoft Windows Server 2016 x64

Cause

CB Defense upgrade / uninstall processes require Uninstall.exe

Resolution

Use one of the two methods below to resolve

Copying Uninstall.exe from another Device (Recommended)

1. Copy Uninstall.exe from Device with same Major Version (3.4 > 3.4, 3.3 > 3.3, etc.)

   File Location 
   C:\Program Files\Confer

2. Transfer copy of Uninstall.exe to Device having issue
3. Attempt process for uninstall or upgrade normally
4. Verify Sensor Version / Deregistered Status through Console

Using Sensor Removal Tool (Last Resort)

1. Use the Steps outlined here How to Uninstall Windows Sensor Using Sensor Removal Tool 
2. Install desired Sensor Version normally
