Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Standard (formerly Cb Defense)

Issue/Introduction

  • On the local system, the sensor reports a different version than what is found in the console.
    • Example: Add / Remove Programs reports CB Defense Sensor 3.2.0.213 yet the console and confer.log files report the sensor as 3.2.0.10101.

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud Sensor: All Versions
  • Microsoft Windows OS: All Supported Versions

Cause

Critical registry locations were overwritten through; failed installation, improper registry changes, or failed GPO / SCCM pushes. The package GUID under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\[GUID] does not match the package installed.

Example:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\UpgradeCodes\98113471A04147740B565CE52B278F1E] [GUID]

Resolution

  1. Place the sensor into a policy that has "Require code to uninstall sensor" disabled
  2. Place the sensor into bypass
  3. Uninstall sensors that are in the group / are in bypass from the console
  4. If uninstall fails, try additional uninstall methods documented here.
