App Control "A transport-level error has occurred" During Server Upgrade

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to upgrade the server to a newer version, the upgrade fails.  Review of the logs shows this error message
  • A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)

Environment

  • App Control Server: All Supported Versions
  • Microsoft SQL Server: All Supported Versions

Cause

  • Network settings may have changed since initial deployment
  • Server may be in a DMZ

Resolution

  • Correct network settings ensuring uninterrupted communication between the App Control Server and the Microsoft SQL Server
  • If necessary, move the server out of the DMZ in order to perform the upgrade.
