EDR Server: Error CREATEing SolrCore 'writer' - Couldn't persist core properties

Carbon Black EDR (formerly Cb Response)

Issue/Introduction

  • Nginx service not starting with no errors logged in the nginx logs 
  • Following errors were logged for Solr in /var/log/cb/solr/debug.log
org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: Error CREATEing SolrCore 'writer': Couldn't persist core properties to /var/cb/data/solr/cbevents/cbevents_2021_01_14_0243/core.properties

Environment

  • EDR Server: 7.3.0

Cause

/var/cb/data/solr/cbevents/ was owned by root:root instead of cb:cb user

Resolution

  1.  Use the following command to change the owner to cb:cb
chown cb:cb /var/cb/data/solr/cbevents/
  1.   Restart CB Response Services
