CB Defense: Sensor Enters Bypass After Upgrading OS to Catalina

Products

• Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Standard (formerly Cb Defense)

Issue/Introduction

• Operating system is upgraded to macOS Catalina version 10.15.x
• Sensor enters a Bypass state and does not respond to attempts to disable Bypass

Environment

• CB Defense PSC Sensor: 3.3.2.58 and lower
• Apple macOS: 10.15.x and higher

Cause

Sensor versions prior to 3.3.3.35 are not compatible with Catalina 10.15.x and higher and will enter a Bypass state

Resolution

There are two options to resolve the issue

• Upgrade the Sensor to 3.3.3.35

OR

• Uninstall the Sensor and perform a new installation of 3.3.3.35

Additional Information

• This applies to any version Sensor when installed on an incompatible operating system
• Best practice prior to updating an operating system is to first upgrade the Sensor to a version compatible with the target OS version
