Console Could Not Be Deployed on IIS. Please Re-Install IIS and Try Again

Carbon Black App Control (formerly Cb Protection)

Issue/Introduction

When installing the App Control Server, an error is received similar to:

Carbon Black App Control Console could not be deployed on IIS. Please re-install IIS and try again. Exiting App Control server Installation

Environment

  • App Control Server: All Supported Versions
  • Microsoft Windows Server: All Supported Versions

Cause

Possible causes may include:

  • Invalid characters in Service Account password.
  • If another webserver exists with the same name or id, IIS will refuse the new creation as a duplicate
  • Corrupt IIS install

Resolution

  1. If the Service Account password contains special characters
    1. Change the Service Account password to remove any special characters
    2. Re-attempt the install.
  2. Delete any existing Parity Web Console website:
    1. Launch IIS Management Console
    2. Expand Sites
    3. Delete Parity Web Console or Default Web Site (if exists)
    4. Use an administrative command prompt to issue:
      C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\AppCmd.exe delete backup "PARITY_HISTORY"
    5. Re-attempt the install.
  3. If the issue persists, fully reinstall IIS.
