Issue/Introduction

  • Agent upgrades are failing with:
    WinHttpQueryHeaders StatusCode[000001F7]
  • Agent install failures similar to:
    <Cb CustomAction> [05-09-2019 21:00:20:854] Unable to download config file Error[WinHttpQueryHeaders StatusCode[000001F7]] 
    CustomAction b9CA_A_ConfigRetrieval returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox) 
    Action ended 21:00:20: b9CA_A_ConfigRetrieval. Return value 3. 
    Action ended 21:00:20: INSTALL. Return value 3.

Environment

  • App Control Server: All supported versions
  • App Control Agent: All supported versions

Cause

Microsoft defines the hex code 000001F7 as:

HTTP_STATUS_SERVICE_UNAVAIL: 503
The service is temporarily overloaded.

Typically this is due to the webserver being temporarily unavailable.
 

Resolution

  1. Log in to the application server hosting the Console as the Carbon Black Service Account.
  2. Open IIS Manager > expand the server > click Application Pools.
  3. Verify the Identity and Status for each of the following Application Pools:
    • DefaultAppPool
    • AppCDownloads

  • The Application Pool: AppCDownloads is created on Server version 8.10.2+
