Issue/Introduction

How to create a Template Computer for use with Citrix Clones

Environment

  • App Control Agent: All Supported Versions
  • App Control Server: All Supported Versions

Resolution

  1. Install all required software on the desired Template Computer (Golden Computer) before installing the App Control Agent (for new installs)
    • Files added to the Template Computer after the Agent is installed will be included in Synchronization, not Initialization.
  2. Log in to the App Control Console and navigate to Assets > Computers > relevant Computer (Golden Computer) > View Details (pencil icon).
  3. From the Connection History tab verify:
    • Initialization is Complete
    • Synchronization is 100%
    • Configlist is Up to Date
    • Do not proceed to the next step until both Initialization and Synchronization are complete.
  4. Shutdown the Template Computer.
  5. In the App Control Console, from the Computer Details page > right-hand menu > Advanced > click Convert to Template.
    1. Once the Template Computer has been saved the Computer Details page will show as Template Details.
    2. Adjust any Template Details as necessary (changing the name, adjusting Cleanup and Inventory, etc)
    3. Save any changes.
  6. Create Clones from the Template Computer in the virtualization software using the Template Computer.
  7. The Clones will appear as new Computers in your Console.

Important: Unless completing specific tasks, such as upgrades or configuration changes, do not power on the Template Computer. If a Template Computer is brought back online, it will appear as a Clone of itself and the new Clone must be converted into a Template Computer.

Additional Information

  • Template Image option should only be used for Horizon Instant Clones.
  • Template Computer option should be used for all other Clone types.
  • The Template Computer should not be powered on unless making changes to the Golden Image.
  • Many customers choose the Clone Inventory option, "New and modified files" for Non-persistent environments for performance reasons.
  • More details can be found in the App Control User Guide chapter, "Managing Virtual Machines".
