Issue/Introduction
How large will the Agent cache and data files expand in the Linux Agent's directory?
Environment
- App Control Linux Agent: All Supported Versions
- Linux: All Supported Versions
Resolution
Actual storage requirements will vary between environments due to a number of factors, including the role the endpoint plays in the environment.
- By default the Agent installation requires a minimum of 200 MB free disk space, though a minimum of 500 MB free for Agent installation is recommended.
- Large numbers of files on endpoints will increase the size of the file inventory which results in a larger Agent cache.
- Busy endpoints with large numbers of file operations will result in a faster growing (and larger) temporary db-wal file.
- Adjustments to the Agent Configuration (Custom Rules, Rapid Configs, etc) can increase or decrease what the Agent keeps track of.
- In many situations the Agent's initial cache.db file itself will be 500MB or larger, with temporary files requiring similar storage amounts.
- This could quickly lead to a scenario where total disk space required for the Agent & temporary files will average 2GB - 3GB of space used.
Additional Information
- More information is available in the Linux Agent OER > Linux Hardware Recommendations.
- It is not currently possible to change the directory the Linux Agent's data is stored in.
