Sensor Installation or update via msi fails with log showing MainEngineThread is returning 2

Issue/Introduction

• Sensor Installation or upgrade fails
• Log has little detail in it/ is small in size 
• MainEngineThread is returning 2 is shown in the log:

  MSI (c) (5C:4C) [11:52:21:630]: MainEngineThread is returning 2

Environment

• Carbon Black Cloud Sensor: All Versions
• Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions

Cause

• MSI command did not reference the installer file properly
• The MSI Installer file was corrupted by file transfer to the endpoint

Resolution

• See our documentation on how to properly run our installer via MSI
• If commands are being run properly and you still get this error, re-download the MSI installer to the endpoint and retry
