CB Protection: How to Upgrade to Version 8.1.6.436

Issue/Introduction

To upgrade to the 8.1.6.436 release

Environment

• CB Protection Server: All Supported Versions

Resolution

If on 8.1.5 or older:

1. Install the ParityServerSetup.exe using the normal upgrade steps:

If currently on 8.1.6.434:

1. Backup the console certificate:

2. Backup the IIS certificate
   • https://community.carbonblack.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Cb-Protection-How-to-Export-Parity-Web-Console-IIS-Certificate/ta-p/62020
3. Uninstall Cb Protection Server application:
   1. Login to the Cb Protection Server
   2. If the Cb Protection agent is installed on the server, set it to a disabled mode
   3. Navigate to Start > Run > type “appwiz.cpl > click OK.
   4. Programs and Features will open
   5. Find and select "Cb Protection Server" (Bit9 Server in 7.x)
   6. Click "Remove" or "Uninstall"
   7. Wait for uninstall to complete
4. Reboot the CB Protection server
5. Re-install using 8.1.6.436
   • When prompted, use certificates that were backed up in step 2 and 3
   • When prompted, choose "use existing database"

• OR, if a reboot is not possible:

1. Contact Carbon Black support
2. A hotfix installer will be given
3. Install the hotfix using the same steps as a server upgrade:

Additional Information

• The hotfix option is CB Protection version 8.1.7.3
• 8.1.7.3 contains the same code as 8.1.6.436
