CB Protection: USB Drive Shows as Different Serial Number Each Time it's Added

Issue/Introduction

Every time a specific USB drive is plugged in, it receives a new serial number

Environment

• CB Protection: All Supported Versions
• Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions

Cause

The device is not providing a valid serial number to Windows, so Windows generates one randomly. 

Resolution

The CB Protection agent is working as intended, there are no work-arounds for this function. 

Additional Information

The CB Protection agent finds the serial number through the OS's reporting of the device. Because windows cannot find a valid Serial, and generates one, we will also use this random number.
