Carbon Black EDR (formerly Cb Response)

Issue/Introduction

  • Brand new installation fails with errors like:
    Processing Dependency: python-hiredis >= 0.1.1 for package: cb-unifiedview-6.1.3.170902.0155-1.el6.x86_64
Package python-hiredis is obsoleted by python-cb-response-venv, but obsoleting package does not provide for requirements
    Processing Dependency: protobuf-python = 2.6.1 for package: python-cb-responselib-6.1.3.170902.0155-1.x86_64
Package protobuf-python is obsoleted by python-cb-response-venv, but obsoleting package does not provide for requirements
  • Cb Response is not installed on the same server

Environment

  • Cb Response: Unified View
  • CentOS: All Supported Version
  • Red Hat: All Supported Versions

Cause

The cause is due to the RPM file adding the default CarbonBlack.repo yum repository, which contains different dependencies.

Resolution

  1. In a terminal cd into the /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory.
    cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
  2. Delete or move the CarbonBlack.repo file out of this directory.
    rm CarbonBlack.repo
  3. Make sure the CarbonBlackUnifiedView.repo file is created.
  4. Once the correct yum repositories are added run:
    sudo yum clean all
  5. Then complete the install by running:
    sudo yum install cb-unifiedview
  6. After completing the installation you'll also run the install utility by running:
    sudo /usr/share/cb/cbinituv
