Issue/Introduction

Can the EDR Server be upgraded from RHEL/CentOS 6 to 7?

Environment

  • EDR (formerly CB Response) Server: 6.2.3 and above
  • RHEL/CentOS 6
  • RHEL/CentOS 7

Resolution

  • Upgrading from CentOS/RHEL 6.x to 7.x can be done following these steps: https://community.carbonblack.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/EDR-How-to-Upgrade-RHEL-CentOS-6-to-7-with-the-Product-Installed/ta-p/86335
  • Pre-7.6 versions are not supported by the OS and requires a re-installation to version 7. The EDR product must follow the Server Cluster Management Guide for instructions on backup and restore. After the OS is upgraded, CB Response will need to be installed and restored per the procedures in the guide.
  • RHEL/CentOS OS upgrade is only available starting in version 7.6 https://access.redhat.com/solutions/637583
  • After re-installing EDR 7.6+ onto the upgraded OS EL7, modify the /etc/cb/cb.conf variable:
CbJavaHome=/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.8.0/
to
CbJavaHome=/usr/lib/jvm/jre-11/

Additional Information

  • Support for RHEL/CentOS 7.6 was added in EDR 6.4.1
  • If assistance is needed in performing the upgrade or steps, please reach out to your account manager to schedule Professional Services time
