Issue/Introduction
Can the EDR Server be upgraded from RHEL/CentOS 6 to 7?
Environment
EDR (formerly CB Response) Server: 6.2.3 and above
RHEL/CentOS 6
RHEL/CentOS 7
Resolution
Upgrading from CentOS/RHEL 6.x to 7.x can be done following these steps: https://community.carbonblack.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/EDR-How-to-Upgrade-RHEL-CentOS-6-to-7-with-the-Product-Installed/ta-p/86335
Pre-7.6 versions are not supported by the OS and requires a re-installation to version 7. The EDR product must follow the Server Cluster Management Guide for instructions on backup and restore. After the OS is upgraded, CB Response will need to be installed and restored per the procedures in the guide.
RHEL/CentOS OS upgrade is only available starting in version 7.6 https://access.redhat.com/solutions/637583
After re-installing EDR 7.6+ onto the upgraded OS EL7, modify the /etc/cb/cb.conf variable:
CbJavaHome=/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.8.0/
to
CbJavaHome=/usr/lib/jvm/jre-11/
Additional Information
Support for RHEL/CentOS 7.6 was added in EDR 6.4.1
