Windows Start Button and Task Bar Issues With Sensor Running

• Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Standard (formerly Cb Defense)

Issue/Introduction

• Start Menu disappears with Sensor installed/Active
• Task bar not working with Sensor installed/Active
• Placing Sensor into Bypass resolves the issue

Environment

• Carbon Black Cloud Sensor: 3.1.0.100 through 3.9.2
• Windows OS: Version 10 v1709 (10.0.16299) and Higher

Cause

Unknown cause related to ctiuser.dll access denied issues

Resolution

1. Upgrade to a Supported Sensor Version as the last version this issue was seen on was 3.9.2
2. If issue is still happening reach out to support with logs

Additional Information

• If the API Bypass does not resolve the issue, move to 'Performs any operation > Bypass' and test again
• This should be seen as a workaround until a full investigation can be performed and R&D can confirm this is required
