How to maximize performance from Fast Index for DB2 for z/OS (PFB).

 

 

Environment

Release: R19, R20
Component: PFB

Resolution

To maximize Fast Index performance:

Set MAXSORTS to the number of indexes being created.
Set MAXTASKS to the number of partitions in the tablespace.

If the tablespace has many partitions, you might want to set MAXTASKS to a lower number, such as 4 or 5.
Experiment to see which value provides the best performance.

Set VSAM-BUFFERS as follows:

• at least 30 for tablespaces defined on 3380s
• 36 for tablespaces defined on 3390s
