Issue/Introduction

To analyze the change in cost between two months and identify where increases, decreases, and the services/accounts associated to those changes, this report will provide visibility.  The bigger the bar the bigger the change from one month to the next.

In the above example we are analyzing the difference between November and December. "Sagemaker - Other" decreased drastically.  "CloudWatch - Other" and Amazon EC2 Container Service saw increases.

Resolution

Report Tips 

• Use the Amortization Report and Filter to Charge Type = “Usage Charge” to avoid one time fees and other charges that create too much noise. 
• Remember that when filtering out items you block new ones from coming in if it’s a Saved Report.  You can “Reject” filters as opposed to "Select" them by altering the URL.  “Reject” everything you don’t want instead of filtering through the UI.
  • To "Reject" filters, select the filters that you would like to have removed from your view and Update the report
  • Review the URL associated to that report and find where it shows :select: and replace it with :reject:
    This will result in your selected filters being removed and represent everything else
• Filter on a specific Spike and categorize by another dimension to analyze it.
