Issue/Introduction

When you try to merge groups with the same name that are created in separate dynamic blocks you might see an internal error message like the following:

Resolution

In order to merge two groups that have the same name, but are located in two separate dynamic group blocks you'll need to first merge the dynamic group blocks together. Once the dynamic group blocks are merged you can then proceed to merge the groups that have the same or duplicate names.

Occasionally duplicate blocks with the same group names happen because the dynamic blocks are created based on the same tag for a perspective that is categorizing across multiple asset types such as EC2 Instances or RDS Instances.

Steps to merge dynamic blocks

  1. Go to the perspective in your tenant.
  2. Click the check box on the left next to each dynamic block as highlighted in red below. This will automatically select all of the groups within each dynamic block. In the top right hand corner you'll see a link button to "Merge dynamic group blocks". Click this button to merge the dynamic group blocks.

After the dynamic group blocks are merged you should be able to merge any group with duplicate names. In the example above the duplicate groups that could be merged together after the dynamic groups blocks are merged would be Group 1 and Group 2.
