Issue/Introduction

It can be tough to make sense of the data that is provided within the partner platform when comparing your Partner costs to the costs of your customers so below are a couple of ways to interpret the data using CloudHealth reporting:

Resolution

Margin Report
To pull a margin report for finance, navigate to the Cost History report under "Customers":

The calculation is simple:
Margin = (partner cost) - (customer cost)

All three pieces of information (Margin, Partner Cost and Customer Cost) are inside.

Partner Cost and Customer Cost
Customer cost is the cost history of the customer tenancy or post PGB (Partner Generated Billing) reporting. However, the partner cost is a little more complicated when trying to line up customer activity.

In the PGB process when CloudHealth generates the customer bill, the following items are removed:

  • Tax
  • VAT
  • AWS support
  • Credits
  • RI benefits if the RI was not purchased in the end customer AWS accounts
  • Volume discounts

When you are looking at the Partner level Cost History report, you need to filter these out to get the true partner cost for a customer. The hardest to filter out is the RI benefit but if you use the daily interval instead of monthly, you can removed the apportioning for RDS, Elasticache and Redshift RIs.
