Issue/Introduction

During a build up of a third party reporting tool to look at Optsate data and other client registry keys to monitor client status you notice that the clients 'Group" that it is assigned to is listed under DefaultOUNameW OUNameW AND DefaultOUName OUName keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC

You are now wondering which key is the best to use for third party monitoring such as in Tanium.

Environment

All Window OS versions.

Cause

These newer keys DefaultOUNameW and OUNameW were added after 14.3 RU6, and function in a temp capacity.

Resolution

The Keys below are the valid targets.  While DefaultOUNameW and OUNameW may reflect DefaultOUName and OUName, they are temp values and may fluctuate depending on circumstance.

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC> OUName
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC> DefaultOUName
