When a job abnormally terminates or is cancelled, the output created by that execution may be considered garbage data.
For that reason, most automated Tape Management systems provide you with the option of specifying how long a tape will be kept if the creator job or task abnormally terminated. To ensure that valid data is not lost, your Tape Management system most likely provides a way to override automated scratch processing based on specific information such as dataset high level qualifier, creator program, or job name.
The abnormal termination of utility programs used by CA View Output Archival and Viewing should be listed on the override option for your tape management system. Depending on the point of termination, reports may have already been offloaded to the output tapes, and premature scratching of these tapes would result in a data lost situation. Any tape output generated by the main archival task (SARSTC) or the tape condense utility program (SARPAC) may contain mission critical report data that should remain in the catalog for the lifecycle of your report retention requirements.

Here are some tips on how to safeguard your View archival tapes, to prevent any loss of data using CA Tape Management systems.
CA 1 Tape Management - The "ABE=" parameter determines how many days to keep tapes that are created from a job that abnormally terminates. To override the default, CA 1 provides a customizable exit called TMSUX2B that can be modified to prevent CA View tapes from being scratched or overwritten in the event of an abnormal termination. For more information on the installation of this exit, refer to your CA 1 Tape Management Systems Programmer Guide, the chapter entitled "User Exits and Interfaces", or contact your local Technical Support Center for assistance with CA 1.
CA Dynam/TLMS Tape Management - The "ABEND=" parameter in your TLMSIPO systems option member controls how long to keep tapes that were created from jobs and tasks that were abnormally terminated. To bypass this option for CA View generated tape output, the TLMSXCLS user exits can be customized to retain the tapes generated in the event of an abnormal termination.
