"Error: The operation has timed out" received after 5 minutes when installing the policy. "Failed to install policy: The connection to the server timed out"

Issue/Introduction

When pushing policy, it times out after 5 minutes, with errors "Error: The operation has timed out" and  "Failed to install policy: The connection to the server timed out".

 

Environment

• Management Center

Cause

Issue may happen if there are errors in the policy not caught during policy save.

For example - Two source addresses into an existing rule , but these two addresses were already in an identical rule , even if the rule was disabled

 

 

Resolution

1. Rollback to last known working version of the policy:

2. Use compare function of working vs non-working version of the policy to spot errors:
