Issue/Introduction

For what reason is a system is marked as restart required in Symantec Endpoint Security Complete (SESC)?

Resolution

The CDM Device Integrity Status Report contains information on reasons the device may be at risk, including requiring a restart. The following example hides columns for illustration, showing relevant data fields:

The "Device Status Reason" column contains the codes to help them understand why an "At Risk" status is reported. Code 103 in the 'Security Status Reason' column also means 'Restart required'.

As for the precise reason, it usually comes down to one of the following typical reasons:

  1. The SEP Client needs to complete an upgrade
  2. The System (OS) has requested a restart to update in-use files
  3. Windows Update needs to complete.

All these reasons are valid reasons to prioritize a reboot, so it is recommended to schedule a reboot as soon as is possible.
