Issue/Introduction

When I look at the Open Alarms graph after logging in to Operator Console, the numbers do not appear to match with the "Top 10 Entities" graph below.

For example:

This shows that we have 1 Warning alarm and 41 Information alarms.

However, the graph below appears to differ:

Based on these numbers/colors, this seems to show that we only have 5 total Major alarms (3 from processes, 2 from HA) and 37 Warning alarms from CDM.

Which one is correct?

Resolution

Both graphs are correct - the confusion lies in what the "Top 10 Entities" graph actually displays.

For this graph:

  • the number to the right of the graph is the total number of alarms for that probe.
  • the size of the bar shows how many alarms that probe has relative to the other probes on the graph
  • the color of the bar represents the highest (maximum) severity of any open alarm for that probe

So in this example, although there are 41 total Information alarms, those are spread out among all the probes - in particular for the CDM probe the chart shows that there are 37 total cdm alarms, and the highest severity is Warning.
