DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM) CA Unified Infrastructure Management On-Premise (Nimsoft / UIM) CA Unified Infrastructure Management SaaS (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

We have a client which is getting disengaged. There is a Remote Hub where the Nimsoft Infrastructure is installed and 1000+ devices are connected to it using the Nimsoft Agents/Robots.

We would be uninstalling the Nimsoft Infrastructure and Nimsoft Manager console from the Remote Hub, but the client said they would be uninstalling the Nimsoft robots/agents later.

Will this cause any issues in the licensing? Since the Nimsoft Agents on clients will be removed later by the client.

Will uninstalling the Nimsoft Infrastructure and Nimbus Manager clear the licensing?

Environment

  • DX UIM 20.x or higher

Cause

  • Guidance

Resolution

  • The best practice is to stop the robots that are reporting to that hub even though the client will be uninstalling the robots under that hub later.

  • Uninstalling the Nimsoft Infrastructure and Manager should not affect licensing.

  • DX UIM v20.x or later does not require any special attention to licensing.
  • Broadcom Engineering removed the licensing functionality since UIM 9.2.0. So, for all the supported versions i.e. 20.4.x and 23.4.x, the licensing requirement is removed.

  • For general licensing, if a robot and probe are running, they would collect monitoring data. It would be better to stop the robot service. The best practice is to stop the robot as I previously mentioned. In any case, this should not impact licensing. If robots are not connecting to any hub, they won't show up in usage metering.

  • After the hub has been stopped, an installed robot on a former client’s device does not consume a license.

Additional Information

Note that if you shut down the Primary hub, then the robots won't have a hub to report to and the drives will fill up unless you turn off all 1000+ robot watcher services on each robot.
