Issue/Introduction

Use this procedure to resolve startup failures in the Identity Manager virtual appliance caused by the WFLYCTL0362 error following an upgrade to version 14.5. This issue is resolved in version 14.5.1.

IM will not start due to this error:

FATAL [org.jboss.as.server] (Controller Boot Thread) WFLYSRV0056: Server boot has failed in an unrecoverable manner; exiting. See previous messages for details.

Environment

• Version: 14.5 (Upgraded from 14.4)

Cause

After upgrading to version 14.5, Identity Manager fails to start. The server logs contain the following error:

ERROR [org.jboss.as.controller] (Controller Boot Thread) WFLYCTL0362: Capabilities required by resource '/subsystem=logging/root-logger=ROOT' are not available

The upgrade process failed to correctly register logging capabilities, resulting in a misconfiguration of the logging subsystem during server boot.

Resolution

1. Upgrade to 14.5.1: Upgrade your virtual appliance environment to version 14.5.1. This version includes the permanent fix for the missing logging capability registration.
2. Open a Support Case: If you continue to experience startup issues after the upgrade, or if an immediate upgrade to 14.5.1 is not feasible, open a support case with Broadcom Support.
3. Reference Defect: When opening your case, explicitly reference defect DE596387 to expedite your request.
4. Validate Services: After applying the upgrade or receiving remediation from support, restart the Identity Manager services and verify that the WFLYCTL0362 error no longer appears in your logs.
