sqlserver probe fails to start - failed to write. Permission denied

Issue/Introduction

sqlserver probe was working fine and after making changes the probe fails to start with the following error in the sqlserver_monitor.log

Unable to retrieve encoded password.. using curent configuration.
(NimCryptographerCfgKeyReadEncryptedValue) failed to decrypt value. RC=3
Unable to retrieve encoded password.. using curent configuration.
(NimCryptographerCfgKeyReadEncryptedValue) failed to write. Permission denied. RC=0
sqlserver: Unable to retrieve encoded password.. using curent configuration.

 

Resolution

1. Open Infrastructure Manager
2. Click on Tools pull down menu
3. Select Security Probe Administration
4. Select sqlserver probe
5. Click on Edit Probe
6. Changed Access from Read to Admin

7. Click OK to save the change
8. Deactivate the sqlserver probe if it is in a failed state
9. Activate the probe
