Issue/Introduction

When SEP is installed and running, SQL Server service fails to start at system startup. Starting the SQL Server service manually after the system is booted works without issue. Removing the SEP client results in the SQL Server service to start without issue. Setting the SEP Client service on a delayed start does not resolve the issue.

Error in Windows System event log:

2/16/2024 4:38:51 PM    System    Error    Service Control Manager    servername.domain.com        7038    "The MSSQLSERVER service was unable to log on as <Account name> with the currently configured password due to the following error:
%%1311

Environment

SEP client 14.3 RU8

Cause

The SEP Client service appears to be interfering with the startup of the SQL Server service.

Resolution

  1. Go into the Windows Services Manager.
  2. Select the SQL Server service and double-click to bring up the Properties.
  3. Under the General tab, change the Startup type dropdown to Automatic (Delayed start).
  4. Click OK to save the change.
