Issue/Introduction

A specific transfer is failing with error message "XCOMM0007E 08 5A XCOMnn ACB OPEN ERROR" 

Environment

XCOM r12 for z/OS

Cause

The job used to initiate the transfer was not executing on the LPAR where the XCOM started task was running. It was randomly executing in any of the LPAR's in their PLEX environment. 

Note: They were also using Dynamic LUs, which is not compatible with XCOM.

Resolution

 In this specific environment, the user will correct the JCL used to initiate the transfer, to make sure it executes on the LPAR where XCOM is running.

Additional Information

If you are using Dynamic LUs, please be aware that XCOM is not compatible with them because XCOM checks for the presence and availability of LUs and rotates the number suffix to find the first one that is available for use. If the LUs are not available, then you will receive the same message. 

It is recommended that:

1. The minor LUs be explicitly defined via the APPL definitions to VTAM

2. Properly configure cross-domain to VTAM.
