Issue/Introduction

When you remove Hide Empty Groups in Staffing - Allocations by Investment, it ignores the filter

  1. Go to Staffing - Allocations by Investment, add multiple fields to filtering, such as Manager(Resource) in Top Panel, select Hide Empty Groups, note you have some of the results hidden
  2. Now remove Hide Empty Groups filtering but leave the Manager(Resource) still in filter
  3. Note the filter is returning records with other Manager(Resource) included

This is valid also for other Staffing panels which have more than 1 object, such as Assignments by Investment

Resolution

  • This is by design
  • The top panel on this page is a combination of 3 objects, Investment, Resource, Allocation.
  • The grouping is 'by Investment' or 'by Resource' as a forced grouping for the top row and when you expand, it gives you the allocation records.
  • When the Hide Empty Groups is removed, it will show ALL the rows that were meant empty, filtered by Investment object fields only.
  • For the 'empty' rows to work for filtering it has to be controlled by the Investment fields, not Resource fields. When the 'grouping' is by investment, the grouping rows will be filtered by the Investment fields
  • Example:
    • You have an Investment with a team of people that don't report to the filtered Resource manager, so that Investment will show up as an 'empty' grouping row because none of the Allocations on that Investment match the Resource manager filtering

Additional Information

Definition of "Empty Grouping"

  • A grouping row is 'empty' when there are NOT any child rows either because
    • (a) the dates of the allocations or assignments don't fall within the duration of the periods
    • (b) there are no staff on the investment -- or the resource is not allocated to any investments
    • (c) or because filters cause no child rows to appear for the grouping row
