Issue/Introduction

How can I trace an IMS transaction using SYSVIEW?

Environment

SYSVIEW R17 and later

Cause

This first became available as a feature in R16.

Resolution

First, ensure that either the FASTMON or IMSMON user exit is configured.   To do this enter command IMSUEXIT anywhere on a command line in SYSVIEW.

For more information on the user exits, refer to the area of SYSVIEW documentation titled IMSMON User Exit.    Unless there is a specific reason to run the IMSMON exit, it is recommended that you use the more robust, and newer, FASTMON user exit.

Once the user exit is in place, you can use the panels to get to the trace screen, or just type IMSTRACE on the command line.  This is presuming that you have already made sure you arein the correct IMS Control Region, which can be selected on the IMSLIST screen.

Back on the IMSTRACE screen, overtype the * under the JobMask, TranMask, PSBMask, UidMAsk or TermMask field in order to trace the entity you want.  Once you hit ENTER the trace should begin.
