Issue/Introduction

This article provides a way of creating a new account equivalent to the Spectrum Install Owner account and some caveats.

Always use the Spectrum Install Owner account when managing the Spectrum application (whenever it is possible).

Environment

Spectrum:  Any version in Windows platform only

Resolution

Two accounts used in this scenario:

spectrum - Spectrum Install Owner account
specadmin - Equivalent account to spectrum

The "specadmin" account (the equivalent Windows account) must belong to the following Local Groups:

  • Administrators
  • Spectrum Users
  • Remote Desktop Users (used for Remote Desktop)

The specadmin account must belong to the local Spectrum Users and Administrators groups.

Note: The username in Windows is case-insensitive, but in Spectrum it is case-sensitive.

In Windows: spectrum / Spectrum / SPECTRUM is the same username

In Spectrum: spectrum / Spectrum / SPECTRUM are different usernames

  • If the SpectroSERVER and Archive Manager processes are started by the spectrum account, only this account can stop those processes via SCP (Spectrum Control Panel), $SPECROOT/bin/stopSS.pl script, and Install Ticket ($SPECROOT/bin/cmdC.exe).

  • SpectroSERVER and Archive Manager processes were started by the spectrum account. Logged in as specadmin (Windows).

  • Switch to the Spectrum Install Owner account (when possible), then the SpectroSERVER and Archive Manager processes can be stopped.

  • Stopping the Spectrum Process Daemon will stop all processes managed by processd.
    Process stopping sequence by processd:

  • If the SpectroSERVER and Archive Manager processes are started by the specadmin account, then both accounts (specadmin and spectrum) can stop those processes via SCP (Spectrum Control Panel), $SPECROOT/bin/stopSS.pl script, and Install Ticket ($SPECROOT/bin/cmdC.exe).

The following error is displayed if the specadmin account is not created in Spectrum:

The specadmin account must be created in Spectrum. Set it as Super User.

  • specadmin account can start, stop, and restart the Spectrum Process Daemon (processd) service either via Windows services or $SPECROOT/lib/SDPM/processd.exe.
specadmin account can run CLI ($SPECROOT/vnmsh)

  • No issues running getSpectrumInfo.sh and perfCollector9 as specadmin
