DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

Is DX UIM dependent on deprecated Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable?

Vulerabilities scan are showing "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable" present in some of our DX UIM hub, can we uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable from our hubs?

Is there any probe that still needs Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable /Visual Studio 2008 (vs2008)?

Environment

Release: DX UIM 20.4 CU4/23.4*

Cause

Guidance / Documentation Clarification

Resolution

•  The Infrastructure Manager (IM), starting DX UIM 20.4CU4 (with the newly released version of IM 20.4.4) no longer depends on Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17.

Docs: Install Infrastructure Manager (broadcom.com)

You can safely remove "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17" from any hubs that is running IM 20.4.4 and later.

On the servers where you are removing Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable ensure you upgrade the IM to 20.4.4 or later first.

You can download the IM from http://<uim_server>/uimhome > Downloads

•  Some Legacy probes still require "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable" for Running the Infrastructure Manager GUI (IM UI) and/or to run the probe executable file (<probe>.exe)

Requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (vs2008) for probe execution (*.exe) for IM GUI

Additional Information

As of April 2024, we plan to remove the vs2008/ Microsoft c++ 2008 requirement from all probes and GUI in future releases. (Not ETA yet).
