Issue/Introduction

There are five redundant fans in the VA084 (ME4084) and two in the VA012 (ME4012).  One fan may fail and report a hardware or disk problem in Security Analytics.

Cause

The fans and power supplies may fail over time.

Resolution

The fans require a few minutes to replace and there is no need to shutdown Security Analytics.  They are hot swappable.  The best video on how to replace these fans is produced by Dell.

The youtube video can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc9_0LI7AZE

For the ME4012/U144 there are two fans, and they are included in the power supply. Fan and powersupply 0 is on the right and unit 1 is on the right, when viewed from the rear.

For the ME4084/VA084 there are five fans in the back.  The fan to the farthest left is 0 and the farthest right is 4.

The best way to find the failed fan and to verify your findings is to look for the amber light shining from the canister. These can also be review from the Web UI of the storage array by selecting System and then the tab labeled Rear.  There will be a graphic representation of the components and their current status.

Additional Information

A full set of logs can be generated from the bottom left corner of the Web UI.  Select the Up Arrow, then select Save logs. See below.
