Alarms with German umlaut characters are showing incorrectly in IM and operator console

Issue/Introduction

Umlaut characters are not displayed correctly in IM alarm console (or in Operator console) :

Environment

Version: DX UIM 20.4.x and 23.4.x 
Component: alarm_enrichment

Resolution

1. Right click and edit the alarm_enrichment probe
2. Change the Arguments box:

from:

-Djava.library.path="../../../../lib" -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -jar ../lib/alarm_enrichment.jar

to:

-Djava.library.path="../../../../lib" -jar ../lib/alarm_enrichment.jar

3. Click OK
4. Deactivate/Activate the alarm_enrichment probe
5. Clear any existing alarms, as needed.
6. Result:

 

 

this might be also an issue for alerts generated by the logmon probe. Here are additional steps to take :

 

• Remove the startup parameters  referencing UTF-8 from the alarm_enrichment probe
• Select ISO-8859-1  as codepage in the “setup logmon” profile (MCS)
• Select UTF-8 as System-Codepage in the “setup logmon” profile (MCS)
• Select UTF-8 as Codepage in the monitor profile (MCS)
