Issue/Introduction

What are the different RESTORE options for TMSCOPY?

Resolution

TMSCOPY is the program used to restore the TMC from a backup.

TMSCOPY, PARM=RESTORE, uses the most resent backup of the TMC and the production Audit file as the input. It will copy the backup of the TMC to DASD and then apply the audit records from the production audit file.

TMSCOPY, PARM=(RESTORE, NOAUDIT), uses the most resent backup of the TMC but does not process any audit records.

TMSCOPY, PARM=(RESTORE, NONCURR), uses an older backup of the TMC, and all audit backups since then, plus the production audit file. This would be used if your most resent backup tape were physically bad. The AUDITBK DD will point to the audit backups that are needed in oldest to newest sequence and you cannot leave one out. They must be processed in this sequence to have the updates done correctly.
