Issue/Introduction

Infrastructure changes on AWS to their M4/Xen based instances may cause our Edge SWG (ProxySG) virtual appliances to enter a reboot loop. This may occur when an instance is rebooted or when attempting to deploy a new instance.

If you currently have M4 based Edge SWG (ProxySG) instances in production do not attempt to update or reboot them as they may enter this reboot loop.

Environment

M4/Xen based Edge SWG (ProxySG) instances on AWS

Cause

AWS's addition of a new feature called "Nitro System support for previous generation". This feature is an attempt by AWS to extend the support of M4 Xen instances onto their Nitro Platform. Unfortunately, this is not fully compatible with our Xen support.

Resolution

To resolve this issue contact AWS support directly from the impacted account to have them disable the Nitro System support for the M4 based systems for the Edge SWG instance.
