Issue/Introduction

Not able to discover devices using Context Name in the SNMP profile in PM.

Environment

DX NetOps PM currently supported releases

Cause

We don't support discovering the IP using a v3 profile/context in SNMP Profiles.

We require discovering a v3 device using a SNMP Profile, then use REST to create additional devices off the initial device using context to see different parts of the device (virtual devices).

The Context Name field in the screenshot below is NOT used at all.  If you tried to fill in the context name field, it won't work:

Resolution

Although PM cannot discover the parent device using Context Name, it can discover subsystem/virtual devices through context name.  These subsystem/virtual devices have the same IP address as their parent device.  We use the same IP but different context name to access the subsystem/virtual devices.  Here is a screenshot of the subsystem/virtual devices:

In the screenshot, the left side is a list of the subsystems/virtual devices with the same IP address - 192.168.0.1.

The subsystems can be either discovered through MF "Context System" on the parent device, or created by DA REST with specified context names.

Additional Information

To discover directly via Context Name would be an Enhancement Request.
