Issue/Introduction

You see the OracleVSSWriterPROTECT - service is not running on the server where your DLP Oracle database is installed.

When attempting to start from MMC snap-in, the following error occurs:

Windows could not start the OracleVssWriterPROTECT service on Local Computer.
Error 0x80070514: Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to caller.

Environment

DLP and Oracle in two-tier configuration

Cause

This service requires specific permissions in order to run.

Resolution

Technically, DLP doesn't require or utilize the OracleVSSWriter service, but in the event it is required (for purposes associated with the running Oracle backups), the required permissions are available from this Oracle doc:

Additional Privileges Required by Oracle Database Services

Additional Information

This service is not required for DLP to function, but is installed with Oracle version that comes with DLP by default.
