Issue/Introduction

Added a spool volume to the VMI system and get this message in the log:  VMLPAX223E No link to cylinders 1-32759 on volume VMSS2I.

I know I have to add links but not sure where or how to add those links.

 

Resolution

The new volume, VMSS2I, needs to have a VOLUME record with associated EXTENT record(s) added to the DASD CONFIG file.

The number-of-cylinders on the SPOL EXTENT records should be … 32759 … as you are getting in the message:

 

For example:

 

VOLUME M01S01 3390

* Volume 0159, CP OWNED

         EXTENT          0          0   * Protects Allocation Record

         EXTENT          1      32759   * SPOL

VOLUME VMSS2I 3390

* Volume nnnn, CP OWNED

         EXTENT          0          0   * Protects Allocation Record

         EXTENT          1      32759   * SPOL

 

 

Verify that you have an IGNORE record in the DASD CONFIG file for User ID $SPOOL$:

 

   IGNORE $SPOOL$

 

 

Then add a new MDISK entry to the $SPOOL$ dummy ID for volume VMSS2I:

 

USER $SPOOL$ NOLOG

MDISK A01 3390 000 END M01S01 R

MDISK A02 3390 000 END VMSS2I R

 

Now change the VMSPOOL directory entry to LINK to the $SPOOL$ volumes.
