Issue/Introduction

What should be done when the following Top Secret message is received:  TSS9012W RECOVERY FILE, AT LEAST 90% FULL?

Environment

Release: TOPSEC00200-16.0-Top Secret-Security
Component:

Resolution

The TSS9012W message is informational to inform you that the file is going to wrap soon. Backups should be taken at regular intervals to ensure that the information is saved. Once the file wraps, a TSS9011W message will be given to indicate that the file has wrapped. When the recovery file wraps, the file is not cleared of all records. What happens is new records are written to the file starting at the beginning of the file, overlaying the old records.

There isn't a way to free up space in the recovery file. The first thing to check is make sure you have the BACKUP control option set so the security files are automatically backed up at the same time each day. You can issue TSS MODIFY to see the current control option settings, including BACKUP.

If you're BACKUP control option is set and the recovery file is not wrapping more than once a day, this is ok. If the recovery file is wrapping more than once a day, you should allocate a new, larger recovery file. Member TSSMAINR in the Top Secret r16 CAKOJCL0 library contains sample jcl to allocate the recovery file.
