Download virus definitions for Darknet clients with LUA

Issue/Introduction

You have SEP 14.3 RU4 darknet clients on an restricted network. You seek to schedule LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA) 2.3.16 to download definitions from the global LiveUpdate servers for the SEP darknet clients.

Environment

LUA is installed on a server in a DMZ or on a network segment that only has internet access on a scheduled interval.

Resolution

 

During a time when the LUA server has access to the internet, perform the following steps:

1. Update the Symantec Product Catalog
2. Add the Products Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU7 English and Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU8 English
3. Add and test a new Download Schedule

 

To update the Symantec Product Catalog

1. Click Configure. Click Update Symantec Product Catalog.
2. Wait ten minutes.
3. On Event Log, confirm that a new log entry appeared that reads either "There are no updates available to the Symantec Product Catalog." or "Successfully refreshed Symantec Product Catalog."

 

To add the Products Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU7 English and Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU8 English

1. Click Configure. Click Add New Products. On the Product line list, click Symantec Endpoint Protection.
2. Scroll down to "Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU7".
3. Under "Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU7", check the box on the line "Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU7 English"
4. Scroll down to "Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU8".
5. Under "Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU8", check the box on the line  "Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU8 English"
6. Scroll to the bottom of the page, then click OK.
7. If you have no other products listed, and you expand the listings, the list "All My Symantec Products" should look like this:

To add and test a new Download Schedule

1. On the Download & Distribute tab, click Add Download Schedule
2. Click Add Download.
3. In the Download Schedule name: field, type "GetDarknetDefs" or any other name.
4. In the Description: field, type: Retrieve virusdefs for SEP 14.3 RU4 darknet clients.
5. In the Select Products box, click Add
6. Click the + sign to expand Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU7 English
7. Click the + sign to expand Content Updates
8. Scroll down.
9. Check the box for each line that ends with "(reduced) 14.3 RU4"
10. Scroll to the bottom.
11. Click the + sign to expand Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3 RU8 English
12. Click the + sign to expand Content Updates
13. Scroll down.
14. Check the box for each line that ends with "(reduced) 14.3 RU4"
15. Scroll to the top.
16. Click Add.
17. Under Select Schedule, click a radio button and set a schedule.
18. Select Products should look similar to the following:
19. Click OK to save this Download Schedule.
20. To test the new Download Schedule, when LUA has internet access, click the checkbox for the new schedule you just created, then click Run Now.
