Will updating SQL affect our SEPM?

Issue/Introduction

You want to update or upgrade Microsoft SQL without negatively affecting the SEP Manager.

Environment

• Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

Resolution

Yes, you can upgrade the SQL database (external) server hosting a SEPM database as long as it meets system requirements.  Be sure to take these precautions before upgrading.

• BACKUP the SEPM database first.
• Temporarily stop SEPM services
  • Will prevent any temporary outage or error notifications the SEPM may trigger if it loses connectivity to the SQL server during the upgrade.
