Issue/Introduction

Updating a zVSE 6.2 system to VSEn 6.3 and trying to copy and restore the PDS files from one of the VSE 6.2 systems to the new VSEn 6.3 one.

The backup had a RC=0 and I see that it backed up 8 records. This is a stacked tape and I was able to restore the ARC and CPR records without issue. When it gets to the EVT file, I get a message: GPP254E BACKUP TAPE HAS INVALID FORMAT.

Environment

z/VSE 6.2 and VSEn 6.3

Cause

Must use utility PCSEVBR to backup and restore the PDS.

Resolution

Use the PCSEVBR utility of FAQS/PCS to Backup and then Restore the PDS.   You still have to use GSPDSU to FORMAT the EVT.
