Issue/Introduction

Every time a user tries to create dependencies between User Stories, the action fails with the following error:

  • "Concurrency Error: Another change is currently in progress, and your last edit was not saved. Please try again."

Environment

Rally SAAS

Cause

This issue occurs if:

  • The user has no Default Project set in their profile.
  • The user has been assigned the "Viewer" role for the artifact project, which restricts them from creating or modifying dependencies.
  • The Default Project is set to a project in a different workspace than the one currently being accessed.
  • An outdated browser bookmark is being used that contains inconsistent project/workspace parameters.

Resolution

  1. Log in to Rally directly via https://rally1.rallydev.com (or your organization's specific SSO link) to ensure a clean session.
  2. Click on your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Profile.
  3. Edit your profile and ensure the Default Project is set to a valid project within your current active workspace.
  4. Verify Permissions: Ensure you have at least "Editor" permissions for the projects containing both the source and target user stories. If you are assigned a "Viewer" role, contact your Subscription or Project Administrator to upgrade your permissions.
  5. Save any changes to your profile.
  6. If you use bookmarks, delete the old one and create a new one using the generic login URL to avoid carrying over stale parameters.
