Installation of SDM 17.x fails with this error message found in the install.log:

We updated the setting to enable the Windows 8dot3 naming option, but had created the installation folder before that. In such cases, Windows only applies the change to folders created after the 8dot3 setting was enabled.
We installed to a new folder and it worked perfectly.
