Issue/Introduction

This article provides a basic JCL file that can be modified to assist in performing the Online Area Move (OAM) process for a Datacom area.

Resolution

There are several steps to perform an Online Area Move (OAM) for a Datacom data or index area. In addition, there are multiple decisions to be made about the process, such as whether to keep a file on one volume or multiple, whether to initialize all volumes available to the file or not, whether to change the blocksize of the area, &c., and some of these require research.

The JCL attached here is a sample that can be modified for your needs, once the necessary decisions about the new file and the area definition have been made. This JCL will not run as is, and requires changes to be made as noted within the file.
