XCOM Data Transport - Linux PC

Issue/Introduction

Does XCOM for HP support Shadow passwords?

Environment

  • XCOM™ Data Transport® for UNIX/Linux PC
  • XCOM™ Data Transport® for HP/UX

Resolution

At earlier versions of XCOM, you may see the following message if you are using Shadow Passwords: XCOMU0287E Error Setting Remote Userid. A CA-XCOM trace will show the local password as x, which is an indicator that shadow passwords are being used.

At r11 0505A and above, XCOM has been enhanced to support HP-UX Shadow Passwords. Shadow Passwords are supported starting in HP-UX 11i Version 1.6. T he HP-UX Shadow Passwords enhance system security by hiding user encrypted passwords in the /etc/shadow file, which is accessible only by a privileged user. After shadow passwords are enabled, the password field of /etc/password will now contain an X indicating that the password now resides in /etc/shadow.
