What may cause an S878-18 abend?

Issue/Introduction

When encountering an S878-18 abend, what things could be the reason for this?  What should be checked?

Environment

Easytrieve Report Generator, release 11.6

Resolution

Here are the following reasons why this may happen regarding an Easytrieve program:

    1) Array/Index/Subscripts are going out of bounds.
    2) Incorrect file or field definition
    3) Wrong record length
    4) Variable files define incorrectly
    5) Table overlays
    6) Please add to all FILE statements WORKAREA NNNNN

It is also quite possible that the amount of data has expanded and therefore the S878-18 abend occurred.
